When you make the decision to join the Cimmerians
and are accepted into the unit, you are expected to follow a
higher uniform requirement, including Military ACU, insignia and patches,
proper head gear, web gear, and military boots.
Civilian Clothing
Prohibited on AO As with all other participants at
Cimmerian operations, absolutely no civilian clothing is permitted anywhere within
the AO at any time. This includes the parking areas, camping areas, and
the battlefield. You need to change into military clothing as soon as possible
or even before you arrive at the AO.
Official Cimmerian COMBAT Uniform (CCU) is
ACU The standard Cimmerians
uniform is the United States Army Combat Uniform. The reasoning, besides the
fact that it looks authentic, is that this camo is the readily available,
least expensive and best all-around pattern for Northern California/ Nevada. See
Uniform Order 2568/21sep06: Cimmerian Combat Uniform [CCU]
Cimmerians should always
bring an official Cimmerian uniform of CCU, green beret and military
boots.
Patches REQUIRED FOR
CIMMERIANS All Cimmerians are required to affix certain
patches on their uniforms. With the exception of the Cimmerian team and Valor
patch, all other patches should have an olive drab or tan background, depending
on uniform color, with black lettering. The locations of the patches are
as follows:
- Cimmerian team patch: Left Shoulder
- Subdued American flag: Right Shoulder (Olive/ACU reverse star field type)
- Cimmerian name label: Above left breast pocket (Olive/ACU)
- Your name label: Above right breast pocket (Name can be first, last or
nickname)
- Valor patch: Left breast pocket (Valor patches are
awarded to Cimmerians who have performed extraordinary feats of combat.)
- Rank insignia center
- Skills and qual Tabs Right soulder under flag
T-Shirts REQUIRED Olive drab or brown military-issue Tuff Neck t-shirts are the only
T-shirts allowed on the AO. White is OK if it was
part of the authentic uniform (ie Vietnam US Army uniform).

Head
Gear REQUIRED
Cimmerian Green Beret Official Cimmerian head gear,
both on and off the battlefield, is a military issue green beret with the Cimmerian
flash on the front with proper rank pin affixed. You should wear this
beret, along with your BDU, in camp and on the AO at all times. You should
select an unlined [or lined], government issue beret and follow the official
Cimmerian instructions for proper fitting and affixment of the Cimmerian
flash and rank insignia pin, or ask any Cimmerian for help. Uniform Order 2567/03apr02 Beret

Kevlar MITCH Helmet In
battle,
the traditional Cimmerian headgear has always been the
kevlar-style "Fritz" helmets. But more and more Cimmerians are wearing the
official green beret into combat. The original helmets were custom made by one
of our members. They were molded from plastic and look identical to the
real thing but only weighing ounces, not pounds. Replica helmets can also be
found in military supply catalogs such as Brigade Quartermasters and Airsoft Supply . Every team member
is encouraged to obtain and wear one for safety, not to mention extra
style points. Helmet covers and olive color helmet band with glow in the dark
"cat eyes" are considered optional but we highly encourage these as they are
unique to our club and very "Cimmerian". Other popular headgears are boonie
hats, army/marine caps, and berets. No baseball caps or civilian attire!
Boonie Hat Many operators, including some Cimmerians, prefer to wear
military issue "boonie hats", which are the floppy-brimmed wide hats.
These hats are available in all popular camo patterns, and can either be worn in
the normal fashion or with the brim sides flipped up and bound by the tie cord
gathered at the top for a commando look.
Eye
Protection REQUIRED As
for all operators,
proper Eye Protection is required during operations.
Gloves Currently the green/gray Nomex flight gloves are
popular among the group and are the proper choice for achieving the correct
military appearance.encounter in operations. Granite, brush, and thorns
are commonly traversed in each operation and will damage your unprotected hands.
Foot Wear REQUIRED
Combat boots or similar military type and quality field boots are
preferred; no football cleats or similar sport shoe allowed! There are several
variety of boots that are designed for different terrain and weather conditions.
Below is a list boot type to help you find the one best suited for you.
TYPES
Jungle These boots are primary designed for areas with warm, wet
weather and soft soil most commonly found in the Jungle. The top part of the
boot is mainly Cordura nylon with leather on the bottom half. They have knobby
soles for traction in soft soil and holes to allow water to drain from the
boot. Not recommended for cold weather. "Altama" is the preferred maker for
these boots.
Infantry These are
standard issue boots and are designed to be all around boots. There are two
basic types, Army and Marines. The Marines type has a lower cut and is partly
made with Cordura nylon material and leather. The Army boot has a higher leg
cut, with all leather and speed laces. Matterhorn and Danner are the
preferred makers for the Marines infantry boots and True Spec is the preferred
maker for the Army infantry boots. One of the best boots are the Danner
Fort Lewis Go-Devils which look sharp and last forever, but are expensive and
are becoming a bit hard to find.
Mountain These
boots are primarily designed for rocky ground, snow and cold weather
conditions commonly found in most mountainous terrain. These boots are all
leather and are heavy and rugged. Matterhorn and Danner are the preferred
makers for these boots.
Desert Desert boots
are very similar in design to jungle boots but use tan suede leather to keep
your feet cooler as well as blending in desert environment. It is
suggested that you invest in a pair of desert military boots for desert
operations, to go with your 6-color or 3-color desert camo BDUs.
Tactical
These boots are primarily designed for an urban environment. They are very
light with a tennis shoe like quality allowing operators to run and jump more quickly
and easily. These boots may not last long in a wooded environment. Bates and
Magnum are the preferred makers for these boots.
Be
advised that because Cimmerian operations run as long as 4 hours, it is
well worth the investment to buy a good pair of boots. You will find
that the more expensive, well made boots are more comfortable and
last much longer than boots of half the cost.
Socks Socks are critical in keeping your feet dry and
comfortable. You are advised to select good quality thick socks for added
comfort, and socks that wick moisture away from your feet such as those
made by Thorlos. Wearing nylon socks under your regular sock will help prevent
blistering. Always bring lots of extra pairs of good socks, and consider
placing a pair in your butt pack for sock changes in the field.
Wrist Watch REQUIRED You are absolutely required to wear a watch with a
count down function or sweep second hand since Cimmerian operations are timed
based. A watch is also vital for keeping track of your reincarnation
time after you been killed.
Operational Uniforms In the
absence of orders to the contrary, Cimmerians are welcome to wear any other type
of legitimate military uniform, whether it is a different type of pattern or
even uniforms of other countries, as long as the uniform that you are wearing is
currently or has been issued by the U.S. or foreign nation's military and as
long as his Cimmerian patches are properly affixed (for foreign uniforms foreign
flag may be substituted for US). Scenario details can be your guide.
Below are images of some other acceptable operational uniforms for
Cimmerians. These are selected based on scenario and preference.
When in use patches should be affixed to these uniforms as well:
