Bco/2 S2 Mission 2
This is a mission account from the Bco/2 S2 and RTO. This is from
the persepective of a single person, one of hundreds involved in the mission.
Naturally, this perspecive will be skewed to toward the author, and thus is
likely to be very wrong when considering the bigger picture.
MISSION: (1) Make contact with Warlord Miller's Shadow Force and negotiate
an alliance. (2) Find and destroy all evidence of WMD. (3) Secure an oil pipeline.

Intel agents
provided estimates on Warlord Miller's area of operation (AO). BRAVO-6 set the operation LZ at a
central location in the AO. |

BRAVO landed
on LZ and maintained a Company zone of control as marked. ELINT and HUMIT assets provided
estimates for ALPHA LZ and initial area of operation. ALPHA was
expected to be a full strength Company. |

Elements of
2nd Platoon (Bco/2) were attached to the command staff and
formed the Bco HQ section.
Bco/2 and Bco/3 Platoon enforced the company zone of control and
initiated patrols. Bco/1
moved north as part of a reconnaissance in force.
During patrol,
the HQ section encountered elements of Warlord Miller's Shadow force. Estimate of forces included an
under-strength platoon of infantry, a motorized armor section, and an
artillery section. HQ
initiated negotiations with the Shadow Force.
Command staff
expected Alpha to extend their zone of
control. |

During the negotiations, one Aco platoon made a daring
flaking maneuver.
Bco/HQ completed negotiations and moved to the safety of the Bco zone of
control, pursued by an Aco platoon.
One platoon of Shadow force moved into a defensive
position to the south and threatened Aco's flank. Elite Shadow scouts joined
Bco/2. Shadow heavy
assets broke contact and moved towards the west.
Prompted by Intel reports, Bco/1 conducted a search
operation to the north. |

Bco/HQ and two squads of Bco/2 merged with Bco/3 to form
the primary defense. Bco/1
found WMD components and technical assists that could assist with decoding
oil pipeline information bought from Shadow. They were ordered to link up with
Bco/3 to secure the items and bolster the zone of control.
Shadow informers reported that a WMD may be under the
control of an Aco platoon to the north east. Bco/2 (understrength) was ordered
to maneuver into position to attack the suspected WMD site, while
avoiding discovery by an other Aco platoon and an Aco HQ section to the
east. The move was led by the elite Shadow scouts and was
completed in stealth, without incident or contact.

Bco/3 and Bco/1 consolidated on the zone of control. Using the technical assets and
Shadow information, Bco determined the location of the critical pipeline
and a small unit was dispatched to secure it.
Bco/2 linked up with a Shadow infantry section and armor
section and conducted an assault on the suspected WMD site. An Aco platoon put up stiff
resistance, but could not stop the coordinated, combined arms
assault. Surviving elements
of the Aco platoon moved to the south and Bco/2 cleared the suspected WMD
site. A suspected atomic
weapon was found. The weapon could not be extracted because of
boobytraps. Bco/HQ ordered Bco/2 to form a defensive
perimeter and hold the position at all costs.

Aco established a zone of control to the south of the Bco
zone of control. Both Aco and
Bco conducted probing attacks, but neither pressed an attack. Both sides settled their positions
and consolidated their gains.
Shadow infantry reported to Bco/2 that they had repelled a
small motorized assault by Aco to the north. They were rewarded for their
loyalty with a bottle of the LT's finest
scotch. |
From the perspective of the author, Bco/2 made a notable maneuver to get into
position to attack the WMD site. The platoon had only two of their
squads--1st (Cimmerians, led by SGT Washburn) and 3rd (led by SGT
Bovenzi). The maneuver was made without being detected, though at one time
it came within 100 feet of the Aco HQ section. (We were clos enough
to hear them talking.) Had the platoon suffered casualties during the
march, it may not have succeeded in the attack on the WMD site. The march
itself was guided by elite scouts in Shadow force (both of which members of the
St James Borderers'
Grenadiers). Their assistance, along with the Shadow armor support,
was instrumental in the successful maneuver.
