Combat Operations Under War-time Contingencies
- Attack/defence of Artillery Battery
- Forward Artillery and Forward Air control
- Search and Rescue of "lost squad"

Op Scenario - Exactly 60 years ago.  August, 1944.

August, 1944.  The tide had turned completely against Germany.  In the west, the Allies were firmly ashore in France, and had liberated Rome.  In the east, a massive Russian offensive, code-named "Bagration," slammed against Germany's Army Group Center, completely annihilating several Nazi divisions and throwing the front back to the Polish frontier.

A third European front was soon opened on 15 August with the invasion of southern France.  Code named "Operation Dragoon," it was spearheaded by the U.S. Fifth Army. As part of the Fifth, the "Thunderbirds" of the 45th Infantry Division had proven themselves in the bloody battles before the gates of Rome.  The "Rock of Anzio" division was relieved in late July after nearly 3 months on the line in Italy.  After a brief rest, they were thrown once more into the breech for "Dragoon."   The division initially raced across southern France, linking up with Patton's Third Army to the north, then turning eastward into the Vosges Mountains- the most direct route to the German frontier.

As the division's 157th, 179th and 180th Infantry Regiments attacked their way into the forests of the Vosges, German resistance began to stiffen.  With backs up against their border, shorter lines of supply, and a growing desperation borne of men defending their homes, the German "Landsers" began to fight with a fanaticism previously unseen by the Thunderbirds.  By 21 August, the difficult terrain favored the defenders, and countless small unit actions, fought between skillfully emplaced German mountain troops and grim-faced GIs- veterans of mountain combat in Italy- exacted a heavy toll from both sides.

Elements of Dog Company, Third Battalion, 157TH INF REGI for the American forces, will face units of the 4th Company, 357th Mountain Grenadier Battalion, I Fallschirm Corps, for the Germans.

WWII Reenactors welcome!
Please advise if you plan to come as an American or a German -

If you do not have WWII gear, no problem!
We have had several inquiries from AirSofters who want to come to the OP but aren't sure they have an "authentic uniform".  Don't worry!   It is easy.

BASIC UNIFORMS -

U.S. - G.I.  - Minimum uniform, olive green  trousers and khaki or OD colored jacket (GI helmet or ww2 soft hat)
GERMAN  - Minimum uniform, German flectarn shirt and grey/green trousers. M43 or Fritz helemt.
(email us early and we can loan out a few of the flectarn shirts etc to those in need.)

It is easy to put together a uniform  at little expence. Do your best and that will be fine.
See our previous WW2 ops galleries for hints on Uniform Standards Gallery1  Gallery2

If you have a full authentic uniform that is great, bring it out and be a star!

WEAPONS - Obviously modern weapons are acceptable.  We strive to re-enact the battle more than to be strict with gear.

MISSIONS -Specific battle missions will be given at the AO. Taking Enemy Machinegun and Artillery emplacements will be inlcuded.

CHOW - Since we are in the field all day bring your chow in some kind of bag and stash it at your Base camp.

Don't forget, This is a BENEFIT operation for Scott Helventson Navy SEAL and friend of Airsoft. Please invite your friends and make our donation large!
